This 39-year-old woman and her 40-year-old husband have 3 children together, and they are a 6-year-old daughter, a 9-year-old son, and a 12-year-old daughter.
A few days earlier, she and her husband wanted to take the kids out to eat for “a treat” at one of the restaurants where they live.
They very rarely eat out, so this certainly was a special occasion for their entire family, but especially their kids
“My husband is a bit of a health nut and is very restrictive of the foods my kids eat, which is the main source of our arguments,” she explained.
So this past Thursday, she and her family arrived at the restaurant, and her kids were absolutely thrilled to be there
When their server came to their table to ask what they would like to order, her 12-year-old daughter Emily asked to have a cheeseburger with bacon on top.
Her husband instantly jumped in to add tomato and lettuce to Emily’s order, and as soon as he said that, Emily clearly looked upset
Her husband paid no attention to Emily’s feelings, and Emily sat there still looking hurt about not being able to order what she wanted.
“After the server took our orders, my husband turned to Emily and asked her what’s wrong,” she continued
She said that she didn’t want lettuce and tomato on her burger because she doesn’t like them. He sighed and said that they’ve been through this a million times, and having vegetables with every meal was super important.”
Emily looked like she was about to cry. She is neurodivergent, and a lot of food taste’s and textures really bother her, tomatoes being a large one. My husband doesn’t seem to care, which really bothers me.”
Their food then got delivered to their table, and Emily would not even pick her burger up. Her husband ended up getting up from the table to head to the bathroom, and while he was gone, she snatched the tomato and lettuce off of Emily’s burger.
She placed the toppings on her own burger so it wouldn’t be obvious what she had done, and she winked at her daughter as she did this.
In response, Emily smiled back and happily began enjoying her burger. Apparently, her husband did notice because he brought it up later on in the evening.
“He told me that taking the vegetables off was a violation of his trust because he was just looking out for our daughter,” she said.
“I told him that it was just one meal and not having vegetables once wasn’t a big deal. He said that those vegetables were very important. I left the room and have been talking to him as little as possible.”
She’s honestly left wondering if it was wrong of her to remove the lettuce and tomato from Emily’s burger. She is aware that her husband is all about their children eating their vegetables, but she believed her husband was just being incredibly “controlling,” and it hurt her to see Emily so sad.
